STATEMENT FROM TONY SUAREZ ON HIS PARTICIPATION ON DONALD TRUMP’S EVANGELICAL ADVISORY BOARD

June 22, 2016

“I was not asked to endorse Donald Trump as part of my invitation to be a member of the Executive Evangelical Advisory Committee, and my participation was not an endorsement. I was asked to provide advice to the campaign on issues important to Latinos and evangelicals.  I welcomed the opportunity.  The Bible gives multiple accounts of men and women that consulted with kings and queens on behalf of the people of God. I feel that I can best serve the Body of Christ and the Latino community by coming to a table of reason, rather than exchanging rhetoric for rhetoric. For months, we’ve been asking Mr. Trump to not just build a wall, but to build a bridge between his campaign and the Latino community. The formation of the board and his invitation for me to be a part of it gives me hope. It was a bridge being built, and we hope our meaningful dialogue will build more bridges and strengthen our understanding. Should Hillary Clinton ask me to serve on an advisory board, I will gladly say ‘yes.’ So far, she hasn’t, but Mr. Trump has and he deserves credit for it.”
